VCFe 4.0 is History. It's been the best VCFe ever. What else :)

A deeply grateful THANK YOU to all people who made VCFe possible and the success it was.

We will get up first pictures and stories soon, so check the Past Glory page to attend your den virtual tour.

Until then we may point to some other sources:

  • On Sunday, May 11th, ad 1.35pm the Bavarian news radio Bayern 5 will offer a live stream, covering the VCFe in their Computermagazin.
The show will be repeated ar 11.05pm, same day.
  • Either on Sunday 11th, or 18th (still not fixed) the Bavarian TV will air a short feature about our hobby, including some VCFe footage, at 6.05pm during the 'Schwaben & Altbayern' show.
  • Last but not least, On Monday, 12th, the German weekly news magazin Focus will feature the VCFe (Issue 20/03). The magazine should be available over seas in adequately supplied news stands with a foreign section.

After VCFe is before VCFe, so prepare for

VCFe 5.0 on May 1st and 2nd 2004

The FORTH annual European Vintage Computer Festival awaits you!

Our mission is to encourage the preservation of obsolete computer hard- and software of year's past, to promote interest in researching and documenting the history of the computer age ... and to have fun playing with old iron.

The Vintage Computer Festival is not only a fixed entry in the Silicon Valley timetable, but it has also become an European event, celebrating our computer heritage.

Let us return to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when geeks were geeks and floppies were really floppy.

Special Focus Every year the VCFe is themed on a special focus. This year's focus is: Home Computer Professional.

Professional use of home computer was quite wide spread during the 80s. Programs like Apple Writer or Textomat may look extreme complicated and weak from today's perspective, but their impact was enormous nonetheless.

Most recent changes:

10.05.03 VCFe is done!

Detailed listing of changes at the News page.

VCFe Live

All speeches will be transmitted live over the internet. Speeches and actual footage from the exhibition area will be provided by two web-cams.

Exhibition

Dozens of old (but still not obsolete) computers to be viewed and touched. No barrier between you and your dreams... (It may be a good idea to ask the exhibitor before dismantling his system :)

Speeches

A series of speeches will be given to describe some systems in detail, discuss classic developments from today's perspective or other topics of interest to collectors.

There will also be a VCFe-Excursion to a hands on life demonstration of a real classic, big number crunching supercomputer.

Flea Market

No system will be ever completely debugged, so we are offering space in the hall to vendors to sell and trade historic gear. Anything is allowed - as long as the item is computer related and more than 10 years old.

Peoples Choice Award and Give Away

All visitors are called to vote for their favorite piece of history and unlike a constitutional poll, you may even win great stuff.

Are you ready for the NERD TRIVIA CHALLENGE?

The Nerd Trivia Challenge is your chance to prove just how much of a geek you really are. You're pitted against two other nerds in a game-show style contest of computer history trivia. If you end up the Alpha Geek, you'll walk away with fame (and a great prize). Think you're up to the challenge? Click here for more information.
