Network topology of the VCFe Network

Networkplan

Freddy Meerwaldt is responsible for the VCFe Network:

All traffic is routed over the ADSL connection.
The server is doing traffic-shaping to ensure that the MP3 Streaming always has enough bandwidth.
This connection is also used for the 3 webcams.

Hostname / Hardware Purpose / Software

  • Digital AlphaServer 400 4/233
  • 233 MHz DEC 21064 EV4 CPU
  • 160 MB RAM
  • 1x 1 GB SCSI HDD
  • 2x 100 MBit PCI Intel Pro/100 Adapter

This is the general networkserver of the VCFe. It acts as a DSL-Router, DNS Server and DHCP Server.
It's also doing Alternate Queueing, which means bandwidth management so that the audio-stream always has enough bandwidth available.

The pictures of the 3 Webcams and the MP3 stream (from streaming.vcfe.org) will be uploaded to this machine. The homepage is being hosted here and it provides the bandwidth for all you clients. The 56 KBit/s stream arrives here, and this computer provides the stream to all the other machines in the internet, who want to listen to the stream. Thanks again to Jochen Kunz from Mobotix GmbH who made all this possible.
