Dave Robson


Dave Robson joined the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in 1974 after graduating from the University of California at Irvine with degrees in Physics and Computer Science. He worked on the Smalltalk/Dynabook project with Alan Kay, Dan Ingalls, and the rest of the Learning Research Group.

Dave implemented the first Smalltalk system in which classes were represented as objects. At several times he held the world record for the slowest Smalltalk imlentation and also the fastest, sometimes simultaneously. He co-authored, with Adele Goldberg, the first comprehensive publication on Smalltalk, Smalltalk-80: The Language and its Implementation.

From 1986 to 1991 he was a member of the senior staff at the Palo Alto Research Center as a Laboratory Manager and then as the Research Planning Manager. From 1991 to 1999 he had responsibility for Total Quality Management in all of Xerox's research and advanced technology development organizations.

Since 1999, he has been the Vice President of Human Resources for the Xerox Innovation Group.
