The Retro-Code Video Game Programming Challenge pits three teams against each other in a contest to develop the coolest video game on a vintage computer.
The object is simple: write the best video game on your team's chosen computer within 3 hours. At the end of the coding period, the games will be judged by a panel of randomly chosen VCF attendees and the game most liked by attendees will be deemed the Retro-Code Champion! The winning team will walk away with some great prizes!
Three teams will be chosen to participate: Team Apple, Team Atari, and Team Commodore. Each team will be provided with the computer of their namesake: an Apple //e for Team Apple, an Atari 800 for Team Atari, and a Commodore 64 for Team Commodore. Each computer will be outfitted with the minimum tools required to design a game from scratch, including technical reference manuals, general programming reference books, and a disk operating system.
The game must be an original creation written from scratch at the VCF. No storage media of any kind will be allowed into the contest area that is not supplied by the VCF. Contestants may bring along any additional reference manuals or books they wish.
The contest will be held on Saturday of VCF 6.0. Team selection will begin at 2:15pm and coding will commence at 2:30pm. The coding must end at 5:30pm at which time the games will be judged and a winning team will be selected.
To participate in the Retro-Code Challenge, be present in the exhibit hall of the VCF by 2:15pm on Saturday of the event. We'll see you there!
