Got Wood? (Open/Other) Laurence Kelbley (Fostoria, OH, United States)
| As was the case during the development of early radio, early microcomputer users made the best of the resources that were readily available. So for some, an enclosure or mounting surface made of wood was quite adequate. But even some early commercial products used wood.
This exhibit features a selection of early microcomputers and peripherals that incorporated wood in their enclosure:
RCA Cosmac VIP
Ohio Scientific CP4
Processor Technology Sol 20
North Star Horizon
Generic S-100 Bus Microcomputer ("Mystery Woodie")
|
Micro Kits (Home-brew, Kit, or Educational Computer) Laurence Kelbley (Fostoria, OH, United States)
| This exhibit features a small selection of microcomputer kits:
RCA Cosmac VIP (mounted in metal case / keyboard)
Heathkit Model ET-3400 with ETA-3400 memory I/O option
Apple II Clone Kit professionally built (Operational)
Both the RCA Cosmac VIP and Heathkit Model ET-3400 were user assembled, while the Apple II clone kit is somewhat unique in that it was pre-assembled at a computer retail store. It's mounted inside a commercially sold wood-sided enclosure with integrated keyboard which was available for custom microcomputer projects of the late 1970s era. |
