Jon Titus is vice-president and editorial director for Test & Measurement World magazine (Cahners Publishing Co., Newton, MA). Prior to joining T&MW, Jon was with EDN Magazine for nine years. During his last seven years, he served as chief editor.
Before his stint at EDN, Titus was president of the Blacksburg Group, Inc. (Blacksburg, VA) where he and his colleagues wrote and edited books about computers and electronics. The company's "Bugbook" and "Blacksburg Series" books were popular in the late 70's and through the 80's.
Jon is credited by many people as being the inventor of the first "personal computer", the Mark-8, which was featured as a construction project on the cover of Radio-Electronics magazine in July 1974. The computer used an Intel 8008 microprocessor chip--the first 8-bit microprocessor--and was targeted towards serious electronics hobbyists and experimenters. Jon's original Mark-8 is on display in the Smithsonian Institution's "Information Age" display in Washington, DC.
Jon has earned three degrees in chemistry: Worcester Polytechnic Institute, (BS, 1967, Worcester, MA), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, (MS, 1969, Troy, NY), and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, (Ph.D., 1978, Blacksburg, VA). Jon's PhD work involved instrument design, computer-interface design, and software for high-speed real-time data acquisition. Jon now resides in Milford, MA, and you can reach him by email at harrowsmith@mediaone.net.
