Jim Willing is sneaking up on his 9th year as a systems engineer for Intel Corporation in Hillsboro, Oregon. Prior to that he worked as a computer field service technician and programmer for 14.5 years in various companies.
He got his start in the computer lab at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. His first paying job in computers was as the third employee of Byte Shop #4 in Portland, Oregon in 1976. He is the owner and operator of CBBS/NW (the fourth public Computerized Bulletin Board System in the country - currently inactive but will be appearing at VCF 3.0), proprietor of The Computer Garage, co-founder of the CP/M Users Group NW (which still meets monthly to discuss old systems), and former co-host of "Chip Chat", a computer topics phone-in show on Oregon Public Broadcasting Radio.
These days his public appearances tend to center around the occasional swap meet, presentations on computer history and technology in local schools, and the annual pilgrimage to the Vintage Computer Festival.
